Over the next 9 days running up to the presentation of the Finance Bill on November 20th, Equality & Rights Alliance will state why Budget 2009 is an attack on equality and human rights protection under the 9 grounds for discrimination.
Slashing the budgets of the Equality Authority and the Irish Human Rights Commission by 43% and 24% respectively dismantles any semblance of a functioning equality and human rights infrastructure in Ireland.
Phyllis Fahey, who was refused a bank account because she was told she was too old, was supported by The Equality Authority to fight age discrimination. She and others will have nowhere to turn next year.
On behalf of older people, we are asking politicians to wake up to the attack on equality and human rights in Budget 2009.
