Because of the budget cuts the Equality Authority will have difficulty opening new case files. It will not be able to assist people to contest discrimination cases appealed to Higher Courts. It may not even be in a position to meet commitments to current clients. This could open the agency to claims of negligence. Worse still, it will mean that people who are discriminated against cannot be supported.
Women like Heather Lane, who was discriminated against and victimised only because she was pregnant and had young children will be left to their own devises.
On behalf of all women, we are asking politicians to wake up to the attack on equality and human rights in Budget 2009.
