15 staff members of the Equality Authority are to move immediately to an advance (temporary) office in Roscrea.
When these staff get there they will find an office that is 2 km outside Roscrea without footpaths or public transport; a building that is inaccessible for people with disabilities; and a Public Information Centre which relies on a telephone system which crashes with more than three calls on the line.
How will people like Des Murphy, who is legally blind, make his way to the new Equality Authority safely? He won a case against a local authority because it had switched off audible traffic lights making it impossible for him to negotiate a town he already knew.
On behalf of people with disabilities, we are asking politicians to wake up to the attack on equality and human rights in Budget 2009.
